David Gavrilescu

 David Gavrilescu is a Romanian Grandmaster and reigning Romanian Champion (2022). Aside from his Romanian championship titles, Gavrilescu has a storied chess career that began in his childhood. Gavrilescu is the U8 European Vice-Champion (2011), National Junior Champion (U20 2018), and Balkan Champion (2020). More recently, Gavrilescu tied for second-place in the Romanian Chess Championship in 2022, and played in the Grand Chess Tour that same year. Despite being the lowest-rated player in the field, Gavrilescu punched above his weight, securing draws from players such as Wesley So and Radosław Wojtaszek in the rapid section, and wins against Viswanathan Anand among several others in the blitz section. In 2023, Gavrilescu finished second in the Romanian Championships.
