Magnus Carlsen is a Norwegian Grandmaster, five-time classical World Champion (2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2021), five-time World Rapid Champion (2014, 2015, 2019, 2022, 2023), and reigning eight-time World Blitz Champion (2009, 2014, 2017-2019, 2022-2024) as well as the highest-rated chess player in history. After becoming the youngest ever to reach the number one FIDE rating spot at the age of 19, Carlsen earned the highest FIDE rating of all-time at 2882 and has stayed in the top spot for over 14 years. Carlsen became World Champion in 2013, after defeating Vishwanathan Anand in a classical 12-game match. He then successfully defended his title against Anand in 2014, Sergei Karjakin in 2016, Fabiano Caruana in 2018, and Ian Nepomniachtchi in 2021. Magnus is also a two-time Grand Chess Tour winner in 2015 and 2017. More recently, Carlsen won both the World Rapid & Blitz Championships in 2023 n The following year Carlsen won the World Blitz Championship for the eighth time
