A regular stop on the Grand Chess Tour since 2015, The 2016 Sinquefield Cup was the third stop on the tour. Held in classical format, 10 of the world's best battled it out in nine rounds for $300,000 in prize money. After a very dramatic round 9, America’s #3 rated player, Wesley So, won the 2016 Sinquefield Cup. Wesley won the tournament with a 5.5/9 score, after drawing Maxime Vachier-Lagrave on the black side of a Berlin variation of the Ruy Lopez. His two wins from the event came in rounds one and six, vs. Hikaru Nakamura and Veselin Topalov respectively.
