The Wimbledon of Chess
The 2015 Norway Chess was the first stop on the inaugural 2015 Grand Chess Tour tour. Held in classical format, 10 of the world's best battled it out in nine rounds for $300,000 in prize money and considered one of the strongest tournament's in the world. Legendary World Champion, Garry Kasparov stated in 2014, “Norway Chess is the Wimbledon of Chess.” Reminiscent of other major sports events such as indeed Wimbledon, Norway Chess exhibits a distinguished and emotionally recognizable aura.
Veselin Topalov won the 2015 Norway Chess tournament and 13 Grand Chess Tour points with Vishy Anand taking a close second and Hikaru Nakamura taking third place.
