Ivan Saric is a two-time Croatian Champion (2009, 2013) and former European Individual Champion (2018), the second Croatian player to achieve the title. In 2008 Saric won the U18 World Youth Championship, as well as the U18 European Youth Championship; the next year Saric would win the first of two Croatian Championships. He also won the Challengers section of the 2014 Tata Steel Tournament, qualifying for the Masters section the following year. Saric is currently the highest-rated Croatian player and leader of the Croatian National Team. His most notable win was against Magnus Carlsen in the 2014 Chess Olympiad, where Saric achieved a score of 7/11.
