Paris launches 2017 tour

A regular stop on the Grand Chess Tour since 2016, Paris Grand Chess Tour was the first stop on the 2017 tour. Spectators watched six of the full tour participants and four wildcards compete against each other in 9 rounds of rapid chess and 18 rounds of blitz chess for a total prize fund of $150,000.

The final day of the 2017 Paris Grand Chess Tour brought all the drama and excitement that chess fans could have hoped for. French chess fans watched their local hero, Parisian Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, rip through the field on the final day to join Carlsen in the playoffs. Ultimately the World Champion started and ended the day at the top of the field beating out Vachier-Lagrave in the final day's playoffs.
